Not just looking for the IPAD 8

Today I attended the Enterprise 2.0 Conference in Boston. This is my 1st Enterprise 2.0 conference and so far it has been nice. I had lunch and some great discussions with Chris Ferdinandi & Jason Davis. After Lunch we started walking around the Expo to see what was being offered.

Chris summed it up in his tweet-

“Amazed at how many vendors couldn’t clearly articulate their value properly. Having a cool product isn’t enough! #e2conf”

Well let me explain why I agree with this. Many vendors ask me “what is Nerd Blurt?” I explain that it is my blog as I am currently a student/blogger, this is usually where they change their attitudes and pitch. That is kind of sad being that most people attending the Enterprise 2.0 conference and their own business relates to social media or team collaboration. It is true that I am not going to be a great source of ROI to them or am I?

Instead of politely being rude and acting like you are done pitching your product, hand me the booth swag and turn away, I ask why not explain to me why I should write about your product. Exactly how does this benefit the community at large? As a blogger I would love the chance to research a product then give a real review of this not just PR fluff.  So I am going to do something tomorrow while talking with the vendors, I will ask them that simple question “why should I write about your product?” I will record for note purposes and then do my follow up post to this post on how they take the question.

I will say that there were some vendors that treated us great, they were fun and knowledgeable of their products.

I really apopreciate you attention to the social graces that are being applied at the booths. This certain shows the underlying social insights that these companies actually have. How can good product come from lack of insight?

    • Matt,
Not sure exactly what it is or was with them. Day 2 was much better. I will be completing my follow up post shortly.

  • Hey Luigi – it was nice meeting you yesterday. You came by our pod (#204) to check out Clearvale…and then we also had a conversation about multi-platform online gaming, haha. You may or may not remember me. Anyway, in response to your observations above, I’d say sometimes vendors/companies forget it’s not always just about ROI, but also the networking and connections you make, and the people you meet. We were there mostly for the latter, so I hope you had a good time at our station. If you do choose to write about us, feel free to shoot me an email with any questions you’ve got and I’ll be more than happy to follow up. Thanks for coming by.

    • Yasean,
I do remember you and our discussions on both Clearvale & gaming. I will be ding a write-up on my experience trying Clearvale’s product after I’ve had a chance to play around with it. Look forward to keeping in touch.
